Dear Readers,

I am having a bit of trouble with my Dell Inspiron 8100. When started
up the Dell works for a few minutes, sometimes up to half an hour, and
then suddenly freezes. The only thing that is connected to it is an
ethernet and I have tried using the computer without it.
Please Reply A.S.A.P. with any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Kind Regards,

A bit tired, eh? The OP said "suddenly freezes", not "suddenly shuts down".

Sudden shutdown often = overheating.
Sudden freezing often = video driver problem.

The DELL website has a support document that refers to the video card in the
OP's model.

No not tired based on my experience. I have just fixed a computer in the
office with the same problem - computer frozen open up case CPU fan not
working, replace, been on for hours with no problem.

The CPU cooling fans ( for I think there are 2 of them) do not work at
all. I opened it up a few months ago to replace the ethernet and phone
line ports. I have now realised that it does in fact last longer
without the internet. However, as soon as I connect the ethernet to the
computer, within a few minutes it will freeze. Do you have any
suggestions? If you do please post them A.S.A.P.
By the way i dont think it has nVIDIA GeForce Graphics.

Assuming you meant what you typed - replace the fans the system is over
heating

Dear Dick,

What I meant to say was that the fans do not turn at all while the
system is on. However, a few days ago i opened the computer to take out
the fans. While the computer was on I accidentally pressed the power
button. Miraculously both fans started spinning rapidly. This tells me
that they do infact work but, they do not turn while the laptop is on.
I would like to point out the fact the when I connect the ethernet
cable to the computer it lasts for about 20- 25 minutes and then
freezes.
If you have a similar problem or know how to fix this problem please

I need to fix the computer urgently for the school year is approaching
and I need it to be working properly with no problems.

I think your best bet is to ring Dell and ask them. The problem you are
having looks to be caused by over heating.
