hey guys and gals.

ive got myself a friendly widows virus that has planted itself into the prefetch folder. i know it is ok to delete these, but what is the best way of deleting them from the prefetch folder without itself regeneragting itself again. as it is a virus i want it gone as it is stopping me running few programs which i critically need . (i know that is what virus/spyware generally do hehe.)

thanks people

Sorry, but without more information we can't help much. Do you have an AV/anti-malware program?

I will tell you that it is not ok to delete prefetch folders or files willy-nilly ... you need to find the source of the infection.

Windows doesn’t do a thing with the .pf files for applications unless, of course, you, or some nastie, has configured one of those apps to start up with Windows.

oh, welcome to the forums.

right ok then someone told me that you can delete / clean up some of the files in the prefetch folder.

i do have AV and anti spyware aplications but the Av i have on here dont run and is being blocked from doing so. i ve run blacklight and found nothing and spyware isnt comeing up with nothing ethier. all the things i try to do gets blocked by 'internet connection error' i know my connection is fine. i ve got broadband and i can surf the web threw almost all sites minus the ones that have Av programs on such as blacklight. that wasnt able to run so i dived on another pc and tranfered the file.

when i started up the pc it would come up with JIGABOO.EXE ownz you. and then plays some strange music . i can stop this in task manger and traced it back to a file in the prefetch folder.
hence wanting to delete a file in there.

hopefully that is more of a help to people.

thanks chaps / chapettes

By all means, delete the whole prefetch folder, but I suspect, as Windows will simply rebuild the prefetch folder, that your 'infection' will just bounce back.

To be honest with you, I have never heard of any nastie by that name ... I do know that is not a nice name to call someone. ;)

I suggest using HijackThis and post a log so we can have a look for you. :thumb:

What AV / Anti-spyware programs are you using ... please name them.

 WoW ... this is the best I've seen online in a long time ... I may just make this thread a 'stickie' for a few weeks.

No disrespect intended to you mingmingmo ... ;)

I can see straight away that your Host file has been "infected" and is blocking all access to all sites needed to do an on-line clean up. They missed a few though. :D

OK, you have made my day, hopefully we can clean this up for you ... :thumb:

... phew, what a lot. :)

OK, once you have fix all that lot, do a system scan using one o the on-line scanners, then post another HJT log.

I recommend you have a browse around our Spyware forum and see what we recommend as the min for Windows protection.

right ok then someone told me that you can delete / clean up some of the files in the prefetch folder.

i do have AV and anti spyware aplications but the Av i have on here dont run and is being blocked from doing so. i ve run blacklight and found nothing and spyware isnt comeing up with nothing ethier. all the things i try to do gets blocked by 'internet connection error' i know my connection is fine. i ve got broadband and i can surf the web threw almost all sites minus the ones that have Av programs on such as blacklight. that wasnt able to run so i dived on another pc and tranfered the file.

when i started up the pc it would come up with JIGABOO.EXE ownz you. and then plays some strange music . i can stop this in task manger and traced it back to a file in the prefetch folder.
hence wanting to delete a file in there.

hopefully that is more of a help to people.

thanks chaps / chapettes

Did you download trojan or something?

I could not find anything about jigaboo.exe on the net, Maybe this is the host name.

First of all i would try a other virus checker , try NOD32 for free and a second spyware remover.

Disable the internet and do a full scan.

Did find one site with this name

http://www.tabletquestions.com/windows-xp/103624-what-jigaboo-what-does-mean.html

Someone has the same thing.

Your log is clean of any recognised nasties ... :thumb:

You are using Norton Internet Security & Comodo firewall ... that means you are using two Firewalls at the same time ... this is not recommended as one can interfere with the other.

Norton is not recommended by me, or quite a few in-the-know, because its quite ineffective, bloated, which means all it does is slow down your PC ... however, if you do decide to get rid of it for better AV program, you will need to use Norton's own clean-up tool to eradicate it.

Just browse the forums, you will see what we recommend.
