Deleting $NTuninstall files from C:\Windows

J

John

I apologize, I've seen teh answer here before and can't
find it.

I have a whole bunch of #NTuninstall????? files from
doing my windows updates in the C:\Windows directory.

I'm not uninstalling any of the updates.

Two questions:

1. Can I delete these uninstall files?

2. Are these uninstalls referred to in the Registry
anywhere so I can clean out that as well (should I)?

No, John. There is no Registry problem.

These files are used if you're unhappy with any updates and want to remove
them. Otherwise, it's safe to delete them.

Hi

1. You can delete those folders if you are certain that you will not have to uninstall any of the Hotfixes.

2. Yes they are referenced in the Registry, but unless you know exactly how to manually edit the Registry - you would be advised to leave the Registry alone. To clean out all residues of X hotfixes is not easy.

Yes (they are folders of the files that would get restored)

Once a given one is deleted, go to Add/Remove programs and try the
related 'Re,move'. It will fail, and offer to remove the entry there
