Deleting .log files

I've read good tips here on deleting .tmp files. How about the hundreds of
..log folders and files cluttering not a Temp folder but my Windows folder
itself? These have file/folder names like $NtUninstall*.log (which are
displayed in blue), KB888888.log, Q888888.log. These seem to be left over
from Windows Updates.

Will appreciate advice, thanks.

No, they're not exactly left over. They are the uninstall files for
hotfixes. You can delete any or all of them, if you're sure you'll never
want to delete the associated hotfix.

Personally, unless you need the disk space, I'd recommend leaving them
there, just in case. And if you need the space that badly, deleting them
would just be a stopgap measure anyway, and you need to buy a larger drive.

Thanks for the advice. Does the same apply to the 550 Perflib_Perfdata*.dat
files I've accumulated, with many Last Access dates going back two years or
more? Apparently a few of these are accessed from time to time but they are
a tempting target like the .log files.

You're welcome. You won't be able toi delete the current one, but you can
delete older ones with impunity.

Good tool for the cleanup arsenal: http://www.ccleaner.com/

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less that a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)
