Deleting Desktop shortcuts when logged on with 'User Account'

Hi all,

I have a 'limited' account set up for my son. When logged on under his
account, I get a message saying 'access is denied', when trying to delete
various desktop shortcuts.

Is there a way to grant permission to this 'limited account', so that these
shortcuts can be removed?

We have XP home SP2, with latest fixes on.

Thanks.

Just log into a user account with administrative privileges. Make sure
you can see all hidden/files folders (Folder Options>View tab). Now
navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Son's Account\Desktop. You will
be able to delete the shortcuts from there.

Be careful what you delete from any desktop. You may find that
the shortcut disappears from everyone's desktop.

What you see displayed on your desktop is a combination of
these two folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURACCOUNT\Desktop

If you don't want certain shortcuts to be displayed on your
son's desktop but still be available on yours then you should
move the shortcuts from the All Users\Desktop folder to the
YOURACCOUNT\Desktop folder. In other words, you'll have to
organize each user account's Desktop folder instead of relying
on the All Users\Desktop folder.

Good luck
