When I tried to do this- I got this reply- deleting data in a linked table is
not supported by this ISAM. (error 3617). How can I delete this record
(that I no longer want)? Thanks

You have to check that iif you have owned the privacy for the linked table.

Well... you're not deleting a record *IN ACCESS*; you're trying to
delete a record in some external ISAM file, and what Access is saying,
is that the external file driver does not support record deletion.

Where is this linked table actually stored? In what medium?

I am new to Access. I did a "word merge" with Microsoft Word with my Access Database of names. Why can't I delete a record? Thanks

I have no idea.

If you open the Access database and look at the Tables tab, what do
you see? Is there a little arrow by the name of the table from which
you are trying to delete? What specific steps are you taking to delete
the record? How did you create the list of names in the first place?

Yes, there is a little arrow by the name of the table. I go up an "highlight the record" and right click and try to delete it or hit one of the tags up on top and look for delete and click it. I created the list from Q&A- moved it to Excel and then to Access.

My guess is that you *LINKED* to Excel, and that the data is still in
your Excel spreadsheet, *not* in Access. Try using File... Get
External Data... Import to *import* it from Excel into a local Access
table.
