Deleting a blank page in a Word Document

D

Dave

I have a 2 page document ath I am using as a label
template. Originally, it had 2 pages. I now only want one
page and want to delete the second page. Usually I only
print one page of labels and then there is the blank page
that always runs through the printer.
how do I delete the second page?

Am I missing something here? Run the label wizard, pick your label format
and select New document. You'll have a blank one page label 'template'.

Absolutely - normal.dot should not have headers and footers. :(

So forget that it is a label format.
In a "normal" Word document if I have a second page which
is blank; how do I delete it?

Hi Dave,

That depends on why there is a blank page, so you have some investigating to
do.

First turn on nonprinting characters by clicking the ¶ button on the
toolbar. Does the "blank" page contain a series of paragraph marks, possibly
with spaces and tabs? If so, delete them.

Especially in a label document, you may run into this: The first page is
entirely filled with a table (the cells containing labels). The final
paragraph mark, which Word won't let you delete, gets forced onto the second
page. There are a couple of ways to deal with this. The best is usually to
select that final paragraph mark and set its font size to 1 pt (type a 1 in
the size box on the toolbar and press Enter) so it fits on the first page.
Another way is to reduce the size of the bottom margin (in File > Page
Setup), but the printer driver may complain that the margin is outside the
printable area.

If neither of those applies, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/FitCopy.htm.

Display the formatting (CTRL+* or click the ¶ button on the toolbar)
select and delete everything on the second page.
If the problem is caused by a large table, then select the final paragraph
mark and format it at 1pt size.

And when the printer complains, use the "ignore" decision.
