Delete key not working

In Word 2007, how do I activate my delete key? When I hit the delete button
the cursor just moves forward without deleting. In previous answers to the
posted questions you've said to go into Tools, Options... but I don't see a
Tools menu.

Thank you!

There's no checkbox option in Word 2007's Word Options that would turn the
Delete key off. It's possible that you reassigned it, but having it just
move forward is very odd. Or, on some notebook computers, there are locking
keys that can hijack the delete key. Alternatively, it is possible that a
different language keyboard is turned on (do you see EN on the language
bar?)

Press Ctrl+Alt+[plus sign on number pad]. This should turn the mouse pointer
into a cloverleaf. Press the Delete key. This should cause the Customize
Keyboard dialog to be displayed. If the assignment is correct, it should say
EditClear under Commands.

If it says something other than EditClear, click on Del under Current keys:
and then click Remove. This should restore Delete to the default assignment.
