Delete default templates

Hi,

I know I can get rid of the default templates (Letters & Faxes, Memos ...
)in Word by choosing to never install them, but I still see three templates I
don't want to see (XML, Web Page and E-mail Message). I only want to see my
own templates + normal.dot. Is there a way to delete/uninstall them as well?

I don't think you can get rid of them - they are not separate templates,
just options within the Normal template. Are they really such a nuisance?

Well I can handle it, but not the +150 users chosing the wrong templates :)
If possible I would prefer them not too show up, but so far I've come to the
same conclusion as you have.

Have you considered creating your own folder(s) inside the Templates folder
& storing your custom templates there? You might even make a macro to access
it and put a custom button or menu command in for the users. Or better yet,
create a new menu item and list the various templates there by name. (They
really don't need to get directly to Normal.dot or even the Templates dialog
box.)

There are a number of ways to get new documents from templates. Most require
vba but not all. You may want to take a look at
http://www.addbalance.com/word/templatesmenu.htm.

Of course we do... but do you remember everything you learnt in school? Do
you ever make mistakes? I do, and so do my users.

You would be surprised how many employers put precious little resource into
training and the use of templates is an elementary essential. Users should
not be forgetting such essentials as using the correct templates for company
documents. Of course we all make mistakes, but I never use a letter template
for creating a memo or an envelope template for creating an e-mail. Neither
do you and neither should they :(
