Delay when double clicking on local directories

I am seeing an issue where a user accessing C: from My Computer when
they click on any local directory there is a delay of about 5 seconds
before it highlights the directory and accesses it. The problem
affects all users on the same PC including the local administrator
account. I tried deleting the profile and creating it anew. The issue
is not prevalant on network drives(at least not in the same way) nor is
it nearly as bad when using Windows Explorer to browse files. Any
suggestions would be great.

In a command prompt, type

net use <enter>

Do you see any mapped drive pointing to unavailable shares? If so,

net use x: /del <enter>

(where x: is the drive in question) and see if this helps.
