defrag

Chris

I am using windows XP, and I'm sorry if this is the wrong one. I am in no
hurry. So it's not like it has to be fixed now, or else I'll die. of course
I am getting a little ill.

I run defrag to optimize my computer. I got it in June and I want to take
care of it. I click on defrag, and there is no response. I click on the hard
drive, and then defrag. There is no response. And the same goes with
analyze. I figure I'll just restore it, back to another time. The restore
runs through every date, and finishes up by telling me it can not be
restored, choose another date.

Does this sound like a common mistake?

Thanks

Recieved the pc in june & you now want to defrag, that's 6 mos ago friend....
Taking care of it means regular mntce.Either way,if windows system files are
corrupted & even if thier not, install xp cd,exit the info page,go to
run,type:cmd
In cmd type:Sfc /Scannow When its thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree,type:EXIT
Remove xp cd,restart pc.Back in xp,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CLEANMGR
Run cleanup on C: After type:Defrag C:

Are there any errors given when you go to defrag? Check in the event
viewer...

Start
Run
Type "eventvwr.msc" without the quotes
Press enter

If you don't find your way back here with the errors you can look it up;

Figure out what the Events Mean in the Event Manager MMC Snap-in.:
