Defrag windows XP hOme

I have a dell 4100 dimension and I run windows XP home I
analyze the defrag console and it tells me that I shoud
defrag,my question is do I have to do it in safe mode?
because there is no info in help and it does not says
that I have to so please help

You don't have to do it in safe mode, but it's more likely to complete
uninterrupted in safe mode since fewer processes will be running. At least
that's how I understand it.

If you don't want to switch to safe mode, just make sure Norton's or any
other virus program is temporarily disabled. If you have Zone Alarm
disable that. Otherwise these programs will continue to rewrite the
drive and you will never get past the 10% figure. :)

Through out the use of Win95, 98, ME and XP along with ZA, Kerio and other
firewalls and several antivirus programs, I have never had to switch to safe
mode or even turn any of those apps off in order for defrag to run
successfully.
