Defrag leaves many fragmented files

D

David Bernheim

When I run the XP built-in defragmenter, it tells me to defagment, but
leaves many files badly fragmented. One file has 4000 fragments! (this file
is c30Mb). Startup is S L O W, which is why I am trying to clean up my
system.

I have 22% free space, so there should be room for defrag to move files as
required.

Thanks
David

I had the same problem even though defrag used to work
fine. This is what sorted mine:
Right click C drive then properties, tools tab, then
check now, tick one box only to scan for and attempt
recovery of bad sectors. When that's done, run defrag
several times in succession and it seems to sort it.
Obviously defrag runs quicker each time as more
fragmented files are fixed. Bit of a bind but it was at
least successful. After that I updated my graphics card
driver which speeded everything up dramatically and the
whole system is tickety-boo! Be lucky, Smithy

Just running Defrag a second or third time helps.
