Definitions Will Not Stay Updated

P

Perry

I am having the same problem updating definitions 5731 to
5733 as I did before a fix was listed for earlier update
versions like 5729 to 5731. It continually updates each
time I try it. This is a problem, even though this is
beta, that is ongoing and definitely should have been
fixed by now.

I had the same issue with 5729 to 5731 and now with 5733! I
hope too they fix this very soon! BTW, the manual updates
do NOT fix mine either as it still looks for the newer
defs. with 5731 and now again 5733. If you look on help:
about MSAS it also shows that I have the new defs
installed!? Weird..

Hello All,

a new workaround,
Empty you Temp Internet folder
Then click for update MSAS
Go to the Temp Internet folder
there are now 3 folders, look for the next 3 files in those folders
gcThreatAuditScanData[1].gcz
gcThreatAuditThreatData[1].gcz
gcDeterminationData[1].gcz
Ok change the .gcz annex to .zip
unzip them to the MSAS folder
Say yes to overwrite!
Then click upgrade MSAS
and no more useless upgrades!

Yes it is still a Beta!

The same thing happened on my PC. You need to apply once
again the fix recommended previously to upgrade to 5731.
I assume that at some point Microsoft will do something to
cure the problem otherwise one will have to go through the
whole download thing each time new updates are posted!!
Thanks Microsoft.

Tom,

Using IE, I don't get three folders in my temporary internet files folder. I do,
however, get six files regarding "gc" something. Three of the files are .gcz
files, three are catalog files (.cat). To be clear, which exactly should I turn
into zip files, unzip, and add to my msas folder?

Mmmm, nevermind. ; )~

I simply did what you said to do (despite there being several file types to choose
from) and can categorically say your fix has finally overcome my perpetually
updating from 5729 to whatever the most recent update is (currently 5733).

Finally. None of the other fixes worked. I was becoming really pretty
discouraged (especially since I have really talked this product up and had
convinced numerous clients to try it---boy was my face red).

To confirm, this fix is a one time thing, after this I msas will be able to update
properly from now on? I would like to know this for certain before I tell anyone
else. <g>

It's crazy to have to replace and add files to get MS
anti-spyware to work. One would think that after several
weeks of knowing about this update problem, MS would at
least fix it (or maybe they can't, otherwise it should
have been fixed if it's beta or not beta). It's just
unbelieveable they can't fix something as simple as the
updater. I surely have decided this is not a product I
would ever pay for.
