Defender Won't Install Updates - Again

Once again, this time for KB915597, Defender tells me there is an update to
install, I install it, it tells me everythingis OK and then I get the install
install message again, and again, and again..... Maybe MS should rename this
thing Defense-Less. So call someone tell me how to solve this problem once
and for all. I don't want to have to go through this everytime Defender
needs an update. Thanks.

Hi again Chuck,
I have actually found the post at bleeping computers which I followed, and
it worked for me. I used the second method.
Good Luck

I have had this problem a couple times and I followed this that I found
posted from someone else.
I open
C/Programs/WindowsDefender/
Right click on AS_Sigs.MSI
Click uninstall
Then open Defender and check for updates using the help/about/check for
updates.
Works for me.
Some have used this method -
1. Remove the current signature file. To do this, click Start,
click Run, type Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}, and
then click OK.
2. Open Windows Defender. To do this, click Start, click Programs,
and then click Windows Defender.

3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options
arrow next to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows
Defender, [/b] and then click Check for Updates

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately neither of the two approaches worked for
me. I followed your suggestion about uninstalling AS_Sigs.MSI but it doesn't
appear to uninstall, the file just stays there. Following the second
approach I get the following error message "Error 1316 occured while
attempting to read rom C:/Windows/InstallerAS_Sigs.MSI. This is likely
because there is no such file in the Installer folder it is in the Defender
folder. Where does it actually belong? Maybe I should just uninstall this
beast and try again from scratch.

Thanks Lulbelle, I seem to have gotten Defender to work by using Add/Remove
Programs (in Control Panel) to update Defender. We'll seem what happpens
next time MS issues an update. Thanks again.
