Defender Should Warn Minimizing To Tray

When closing Defender using the close icon in the title bar, Defender should
pop up a warning saying that this will minimize Defender to the system
tray, not close the program. This would be especially useful since the tray
icon is hidden. Having the "Exit Windows Defender" option under the help
button is not very intuitive.

How can we show the icon in the tray? I liked the reassurance of seeing
it - and if I miss a scheduled scan I have to open it up and run a manual
scan..... so I need the icon.

Unlike the Antispyware tray icon the new Windows Defender icon does not show
up all the time, Windows Defender is running as a service, so although the
icon does not show in the tray, it is still running and protecting your
system, if spyware attempts to install on your computer then the icon will
appear and inform you so that you can take action.

Hope that helps ?

I suppose it does, Andy. Being a control freak I just like to check up on
things!

Yeah I agree with you Auntie Kate, I liked to see the tray icon visible and
it took me a while to work out what was going on.

The tray icon appears when Windows Defender needs your attention.

I guess it's my fault for the lack of clarity in my original post, but the
tray icon is not the issue here. My concern is that the close button on WD
does not close the program it only closes the GUI. To actually exit the
program you have to drill down a menu next to the help button. This is not a
big deal except that when a close button does something other than close an
application, the user should be notified.

I ran my startup inspector that shows that the icon says hide. I guess a
trip to the registry is necessary.

We will add the option for admins to get the icon back, but the default will
stay the way it is today. If you miss a schedule scan, we know about it and
will run it next time you start the system after about 10 mins to give you
something to work on :)
