defender compatibility with xp-64

I am unable to upgrade from microsoft antispyware to windows defender on my
windows-xp-64 bit operating system. Has anyone been succesful installing
defender on xp-64 ?

This should work, but among the known issues is one stating that a CUSTOM
install does not work correctly on XP-64.
