Defender blocking web login popups

I recently installed the release version of defender but I am now unable to
access several websites that require a login (by way of a popup login form).
I either get a blank page or the browser times out with a connection failure
message. I do not get any indication from defender that it has blocked
anything. Is it possible to authorise some sites to be allowed to popup
such logins or in some other way to stop defender doing this. thanks

Click (or double click as appropriate) the Windows Defender Icon. After the
WD window appears, click History. Do you see any events/times that correlate
to the pop-ups?

problems are so I will do so this evening (my time)

No luck in eaither case. Disabling real time protection or even closing
defender makes no difference. Nor does teh history disclose any clues. I
guess it is not defender but something closer to the browsers. The same
fault occurs in Firefox and IE7. The access works OK on work PC which does
not have defender. I am now really lost for ideas, perhap uninstall IE7 and
reinstall? Delete add ons and cookies?

Check to make sure Popups are not being blocked, either by IE7 or another
Security application. Do you have McAfee, Norton, AVG, ... ?

I do appreciate the help very much. The popup test sees the popup stopped by
the IE popup stopper. However for my problem there is no message that a
popup has been blocked and turning off the IE7 popup block does not allow the
log in to appear. The login should appear from this URL
http://www.eset.com/download/balance.php?dir=/download/win/v2st/ndntenst.exe
on my work machine a username/password screen pops up happily. But not on
the machines I have at home. I have reset IE to install condition, tried to
delete any cookie taht might relate to accessing this site all to no avail.
i am now out of ideas.

I tried your link and a login window appears whether pop-up blocking is on or
off. Some pop-up blockers have to let the pop-up through if a request is
made to open a new window. So I don't believe the problem is the pop-up
blocker.

You still haven't mentioned if you have any Security app installed (McAfee,
AVG, Norton, ....).
The reason I mentioned this is because if, for example, you have McAfee
Provacy installed and accidently told it to always blocked that sites
cookies (this is totally separate from IE), then your web-site page will not
display.

Do you have any thing installed?

you also might want to put this site in your trusted zone in ie. Also if
you are running a toolbar like google that could be stopping the popups
I tried that site and I get the popup window and I am running firefox2.0 and
ie7 and it loads and popups in both of them
I do not think this is a WD problem but something else stopping the popup

Good morning, Sorry I should have said. I run adaware/aswatch for spyware
and NOD32 AV. My problem persists when I have both disabled! I have tried
adding to trusted sites etc. As you have found the url works fine except on
my two PC's at home. I remain unable to see what is doing the blocking.
Thanks again for your ideas.

Even though you THINK you have disabled them, you may not have disabled the
Browser Helper Object in IE. They may have place an Add-on in there. Check
your Manage Add-ons and see if there are any adaware/aswatch or NOD32
add-ons installed.

Thanks to all for the help. I have given up and downloaded what I wanted on
another PC and copied it over. I still cannot get a login prompt at this
site. Popups generally seem to work fine. I have disabled everything,
reinstalled IE7, run it and firefox in safe modes and still no popup login
and no indication that anything is blocked. I surrender. Thanks again.

It's not Defender. You must have a program running that is blocking the
pop-up. I tried your link and the login pop-up came up. Have you tried to
"bookmark" the sight with google toolbar? and accessing the site that way.

Thanks. I have now tried your suggestion but to no avail. As best as i can
work it out it is only some login popups (the eset one in particular) that
fail. Most popups/password screens work fine. There has been some news on the
net re false login screen popups being used for fraud and I wonder if I am
caught up in MS or another company's implementing a security solution. My
other idea is a corrupted cookie with the saved password info, but I have
deleted all I can find and am not up for deleting enrypted passwords in my
registry. I am planning to live with this until I build a new Vista machine
in Feb/March. Again thanks to all for the help.
