Defective RAS-software

I am using W2k(pro) software.
I cannot connect to my Internet Provider
Pinging: answer
" Destination host unreachable"

The provider's helpdesk reported as follows :
1. In your computer the RAS (Remote Access Service)-
software is defective.
2. Make a clean install with your original W2k(pro)-
software CD.


Making a clean install having a large harddisk with Data,
is not my favorite job.

Who knows an easier way ?.


Note: I made a test with a laptop {also W2k (pro)} and
that was working perfectly.
This means that the advice of the IP-helpdesk is not
unwise.
