Default to Index

On my new hard drive where everything SEEMS to be working as planned now
(thanks to a lot of support and help from you guys) I have another
question - when opening my sites live in FP and then publishing them to my
localhost - it is saving the index file as default. When I go back in to
rename the default.htm to index.html - it places a seperate page in the
navigation view next to the 'original default.htm' page - the index.html
page does not connect to the child pages and therefore is not carrying the
fp theme menu navigation bar but then the original default page does not
carry the theme nav either. so I deleted the 'extra' page from the
navigation view. I can not figure out how to get the navigation view to
show up on that page again? I tried clicking on the 'page' view where it
says add this page to nav view (but it is already added) and reclicking on
'child pages' from the link bar properties but nothing works...

any ideas?
Pam

This means the server hosting your website
uses default.htm as the "default" home page,
and the page is automatically renamed during publishing.
( more of the behind the scenes stuff servers do )
You can change the IIS settings on your machine.
Move default.htm to the top of the "default page" list,
and then your local and remotes sites will stay "in sync."
Then delete the "index.html"

But my server requires the index.html?? so don't I need to keep that and get
rid of default? ALSO - while I got you - please answer this:

another problem:
I just tried republishing from FP / localhost to web again and it gave me
the same initial error that it couldn't find a web site named
www.myname.com on port 80 - but after I click on ok, it goes away and
uploads and everything looks fine?? any ideas why I'm
having a problem with this port 80 thing? it was a conflict and I removed
server extensions on it from the IIS (think it was IIS...don't remember
anymore) and the folder that had 80 on it vanished, and I've checked and
verified extensions on the IIS Default WEb Site
..... is there a problem here or something? Also, on the IIS and under
Pamela/Websites/Default Web Site - the Default Website has what looks like a
red stop sign before it and says ERROR in it ... I've done all the checks by
right clicking and checking everything under All Tasks..and everything comes
back fine. Under Default Web Site it has folders for IIS Help, _vti_bin
Printers, and Sharepoint

should Printers and sharepoint be under that??

thanks again
Pam

Ok,
If it is saving your index.html as default.html leave it alone
IIS will recognize the default.htm version, and when you
publish your web the destination server will rename it if needed.

The port 80 issue has me stumped.

Open IIS. Right Click Default Web Site and choose Properties.
Open the Documents tab and Add index.html.
Move index.html to the top of the list.
Click OK

Sorry, cannot help with the other problems (port 80 and Stop sign)

Are you publishing from local host to your online site using the URL as:
http://www.myname.com/
