Default File As options

Guest

I would like to have a File As option like this: Company (FirstName LastName).
Is it possible?

Now I have to edit manually the File As field...

Thanks

You didn't mention version of Outlook you're using but there is no default
option setting for "Company (First Last)" which if memory servers holds true
for all versions from O'2000 onward (definitely true for recent Outlook
versions).

Some other things to keep in mind about how the "File As" field works
(working from memory - think this applies to all Outlook versions but there
may be a "slight" difference for real old Outlook versions like O'2000):

#1 - It's a "derived" field which gets populated when a new contact is added
based on the current default setting
#2 - If you change the default setting, it does not change the "File As" for
any pre-existing contacts
#3 - If you set the default to be only "Company (Last, First)" for example
and no company name is entered, the "File As" value will be set to use the
name only - similarly if you set the default to be "Company" only - same
thing occurs. Once you enter a company name - the "FileAs" value will then
be set accordingly to the selected default
#4 - If you are using one of the default options for the FileAs field and
you change the name - the "FileAs" value will be updated
#5 - If you are using a custom value for the "FileAs" value (ergo - you
manually changed it to a non-standard setting) and you change the name
(and/or company if included in the default setting) - the value of the
"FileAs" will NOT be updated automatically.
#6 - To change all pre-existing contacts to whatever default (or manually
changed) format you decide - you'll need to write your own code to do that
or alterntaively find a 3rd party utility that will do that for you.
#7 - FileAs field is not available when importing data via the Outlook
import wizard
