default email account

Referring to Microsoft Mail on Vista computer: I have two email accounts
using MS Mail. A is my default account, B is not. When mail is sent to my
B account, I can't reply to it. It sits in outbox with an error message. I
can only reply to mail sent to A, the default account. Is there a way to
set it up so I can reply to mail using both accounts? Thanks

Error message is:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

Look at your A mail setup and compare it to the B account..

Looks like you didn't select an option like "My Account requires
Authentication"

How do I establish my Yahoo mail as a default account, so that I can use
that mail server when clicking to 'feedback' on a website? I keep getting
the Windows mail instead.

Then I get: "Subject 'Well haeellooo there', Account: 'yahoo.com', Server:
'yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC19"

If both are on Roadrunner, check if both of them follow these instructions:

To connect to yahoo.com using Windows Mail, you have to either pay extra
or install YPOPs:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-08.html

That's the first half of the message. The second half has all the
meaningful information.

By Microsoft Mail on Vista do you mean the program whose title in the title
bar is 'Windows Mail' of something else?

What exactly is the error message?

That is the 'fluff' part of the error message, which has very little diagnostic
value. The meat part of the error message will look something like this:

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test',
Account: 'pop-server.neo.rr.com', Server: 'smtp-server.neo.rr.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '553 Authentication is required to send mail as
<[email protected]>', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553,
Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Please post the complete error message.

I never knew what Authentication was, but that solved the problem.
I can now reply from either account, the default account and the
non-default.
Thanks for the lesson.
