Default E-Mail

When I am on a merchant website and need information so I click on Contact
Us, my computer defaults to Microsoft Outlook.

I do not use Microsoft Outlook. It came preloaded on my computer. My local
ISP connects somehow through there. In other words, I have an email with my
local ISP and, if I used that e-mail address, that is where my e-mail would
be sent, read, received etc.

However, I use my Yahoo email address as my primary email address. When I am
on a merchant website and need information on want to contact them using my
Yahoo email address not the email address provided by my local ISP.

I hope this makes sense. I have gone into Internet Options but it won't let
me select Yahoo for my email. Again, it only offers Outlook. How can I make
Yahoo my default email address?

If you have an answer, please give me step by step instructions because I am
a new user. Thank you.

You access Yahoo through web access, the internet options will only allow
you to use a mail program you have installed, eg MS Outlook or Outlook
Express, so web page links will only link to your mail handler and not your
web access.

So what DO you use as your local e-mail client? You are clicking on a
mailto: URL. That says to use whatever is configured as your local
e-mail client. You didn't mention what you use for your local e-mail
client.

Under Internet Options -> Programs -> E-mail, select whatever program
you use on your host that is an e-mail client. Web browsers are not
e-mail clients.

Yahoo Toolbar

I believe this is yet another way of gettings Yahoo's ActiveX control
install on your host to then add it as an available e-mail client. The
Internet Options -> Programs selections are programs that are installed
on the user's host. An ActiveX control qualifies as long as it has
added itself to the availability list in the registry (don't remember
the keyname).

Yahoo used to have a standalone download of just their ActiveX control.
They decided to stop distributing it and went to their Toolbar. They
want you using their web search in their Toolbar because that's where
they generate web advertising revenue. As I recall, you also get ads
delivered through a button that appears in their Toolbar.

In another post, someone mentioned they could still obtain the old
ActiveX program from:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?ymmapi

Obviously this is from a 3rd party so you'll have to decide if you want
to trust it. Yahoo no longer has a link to this standalone AX control
so you can no longer get it from the author of the control.
