As I understand it, when you click on a link to an office document (or a
link to any non-web file), by default IE should show the
Open/Save/Cancel/More Info dialog.
In some cases (for example a Word doc), if you click on Open the document
will be accurately rendered in a browser window.
In most cases, this is the behaviour we have on our machines. However, in
one section we are finding that the default behaviour is to Open the file
(ie not offer the Open/Save/Cancel/More Info dialog).
I suspect that in most cases, the users have manually set the browser to
Open (by way of the checkbox on the Open dialog), but in a few cases we are
noticing this on new machines that havent had the defualt behaviour changed
(as far as we know!).
The most important issue is how do we reset the browser to default to the
Open dialog?
As an aside, is it common for PC dealers to configure machines to override
this by default? I was surprised to say the least, though I cant completely
guarrantee that nobody has already tickered with the settings on the new
machines...
Thanks
