Decreased Performance due to spyware?

A few months ago i downloaded and installed a program suggested to me by a
pop-up window. Ever since then i have noticed decreased performance on my pc.
I have run spyware/adware checks using adaware scanner aswell as the scanners
provided by my IP. However, i still cannot improve the performance of my pc,
and everytime i re-scan my pc new spyware is found. Can anyone help?
Thanks

What was the program you installed? Something like Winantivirus,
SpyFalcon, VirusBursters? Without knowing the name, I can only give you
general information:

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -

For WinAntivirus and variants:

For Smitfraud, Spyaxe, Spyfalcon and variants:

VirusBursters - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic70074.html

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus Ewido. Do all
prep/finishing work and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe
Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at first link above (not here, please).

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

I cant remember the exact name but it was something like ScanDriver or
similar. I'm quite good at using computers and understand the basics well,
however the methods you described below do sound complicated to me. If it
helps ever since i installed the program, a series of pop-upwindows (similar
in apperance to MS-Dos windows) start when i load my pc. Not sure if this is
related or not but it only started when i installed the program. Any further
help would be greatly appreciated
many thanks

Sorry, the symptoms you are describing can be attributed to lots of
different malware. I suggest you do the normal scanning here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

And then do the Smitfraud removal steps:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Smitfraud_Trojan

See how that goes. Removing malware can be time-consuming and
complicated but if you are "quite good at using computers" then just
follow the instructions and take one step at a time. You can do this
or, if you decide you don't want to bother then take it to a
professional (not the BigStoreUSA type of place). The important thing
is that you have already backed up your data, yes?

Pretend you see a popup that says to send me 50 bucks.
Never, ever... ever buy anything you find from a popup ad if you lack the
ability to research before you buy.
