dcpromo error adding 2nd DC

C

Chris

I currently have one DC for my domain and would like to
add a second. After I have two I will upgrade both to
win2k3...
When I run dcpromo on what would be the second DC I get
the following error.
"The replication operation failed because of a schema
mismatch between the servers involved."

Here's some of the dcpromo log....

The box i ran dcpromo on was a fresh install of win2k
server with all the latest patches and service pack. I've
run dcdiag and netdiag on the dc and get no errors. The
parent domain has allready been preped for win2k3...but I
have not preped my domain. Should run the
adprep /domainprep command from the win2k3 media and then
try dcpromo again? Thanks in advance.

This is my second post... :(

I have not begun the move to W2k3 yet, but the issue sounds like a result of
running the W2K3 adprep /domainprep.

This document runs through the steps to upgrade a domain to W2k3. You could
see if it helps:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;325379&Product=win2000

Also, since you are planning on going to W2K3 domain anyway, you could
complete the upgrade (upgrade your first DC to W2k3) and then add the second
DC as a W2k3 DC instead.

For what its worth.

I have not run the adprep /domainprep...that was what I
was thinking of doing since the adprep /forestprep was
run on the parent domain. I don't want to upgrade my only
DC to win2k3 without having a second DC to fall back on
if something goes wrong. Thanks for the advice..but I
would like to solve this issue before I upgrade.
