DCPromo and Event ID 1153, Catagory (9)

Hi,

Here's the deal: Just added a DC to an existing child
domain by running DCPromo. DC Promo GUI reported
a 'Successful' promotion and I reboot, as requested.

Following the reboot - and subsequent logon - I check
Event Viewer\Directory Service and found close to about 20
of the above event ID error. Here are just a few:

I looked up the Event ID and found the following KB
article - 268995.

Article sounds good - relevant - but I'm not so sure. Fist
of all, the artical suggests that I might not be able to
open ADUC - I can. Second, The installation media this box
was build on had SP4 slip-streamed into it. We also
installed subsequent hot fixes prior to running DC Promo.
SO I don't see this as being the cause which the artical
gives as 'the fix'.

Perhaps I could also mention that we did install DNS /
WINS and DHCP after applying the hot fixes and just prior
to running CD Promo. But again, I don't think this
matters. I believe the hot fixes are stored on the local
hard drive, once they are applied the first time; in this
way, they are available to automatically re-apply
themselves in just such a case; a case as I discribe above.

Other info:

- We've not received any further stop errors since the
originals.

- Replication Monitor reports OK (though not too sure this
util. would catch anything surrounding this issue).

- DCDiag and NetDiag pass.

- Here's a list of hotfixes applied:

Hi,

We are having some troubles with Active Directory domains on Dell
PowerEdge servers which were installed using the supplied Server
Assistant CD and Windows 2000 Server with SP4 slipstreamed.

In our case the tree structure of the forward lookup zone created in
the DNS server (by DCPROMO) is incomplete. I suggest that you check
this first by comparing with a domain that you that is correct.

We suspect KB832097 to be the problem. We did numerous iterations to
try to solve this (involving de-DCPROMO-ing, and uninstalling DNS
Server). And it finally appeared as if we only get the correct DNS
config when running DCPROMO without KB832097 installed.

Hope this helps,

Danny Feryn
