Try rebooting. Try to empty the Recycle Bin after you reboot.

The only app that should be using dc98 should be explorer.exe.

dc98 means the 98th Deleted file on the C: drive.

This wouldn't hurt.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

i rebooted and still could not empty the recycle bin.
i thought perhaps i could try emptying the recycle bin with less in it so i
attempted to restore some of the files in it back where they came from
and i got a message saying something similar to: the file dc99 cannot be
restored. it is being used by another person or program... (i should note
that i am the only person using my computer.)
i tried restarting in safe mode and ran windows defender but it says
my computer is running ok. i was able to empty the recycle bin while
in safe mode.
i will be repeating the safe mode scans with my spysweeper and avg
and pest patrol and spybot software to see if i can find something.
the fact you mention explorer exe. doesnt suprise me as i have also
noticed a severe lag when doing any kind of windows explorer activity.
thanx for your help.
