DC system crash

I have a windows 2000 domain controller and I have a whole new server, the
original hardware was no good. This DC is not the forest root and the
server object is still in active directory. Could I just DC promo the new
server and use the same name as the original server? Would I have problems
doing this?

Thanks for your help,
Mark

OK, cleanup data which remains after that failed DC

If thiw server was holding any of FSMO roles and is unavilable at this
time You will have to seize this roles to the other one.

Clan DNS data from entries connected with the old server.

promote new server as a DC in the domain

Would I still have to do this if I am still using the same server name as
the original server?

If it is a new system - yes, besides the name there are the SID, GUID
and some other thing which are changed in the new system
