DBX files

I could not find an Outlook Express Group, so I hope someone can either
answer my question, or ditect me to an OE group.
Here's the question: In Outlook Express I have created several folders into
which I save e-mails.
I burned these folders to a CD for backup puropses. When I open the CD the
files are DBX files, and I can find nothing to open them with.
How do I open a DBX file on the CD? Or, how do I burn my OE files to a CD
in some form other than DBX?
I have Win XP Home, IE 6, and OE 6.
Thanks,
Bob

I don't believe you can open a .dbx file directly since it is a
database. Here is an Outlook Express newsgroup, as well as a list of
all the MS newsgroups:

microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
http://aumha.org/nntp.htm

And here is MVP Tom Koch's canonical site about Outlook Express:

You can only open dbx files in Outlook Express. And you can only read them
by copying them back to the HDD and then in OE importing them, and then
ONLY if the files you have copied contain the file called folders.dbx.
Otherwise you have to do a round-the-houses workaround to be able to open
them in OE.

In OE importing them, and then in this folder,
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Local Settings\
Application
Data\Identities\{#############################}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Delete The "folders.dbx" and close OE, then restart the computer. OE will
remake the "folders.dbx", and all of your imported and old folders will be
available.

Note: newsgroup folders will be reset to 0
