Dawn Sleeps With ATI

if you google for my subject header, you will get the rage3d site with al
the details, I have attempted the trick to get the NVIDIA demo to run on my
9800xt system but no go, the wrapper wont work. is there a place to get the
early version of dawn? this might be old news to most of you I think. I have
tried with the v10 wrapper, v11 (latest), the thunderbird patch. I have read
and followed the instructions explicitly, I have tried to start he demo from
the fairy.exe file and the shortcut. I have rolled my catalyst drivers from
4.2 to 3.8, but some say I might need 3.6

my system specs:
cpu = xp2800+ barton
OS = WinXP pro
Graphics = SmartVGA 9800XT 256mb
soundblaster live
dx9.0b
512mb ddr ram

Ya know what is funny, that Ati demos run very nice on nvidia cards,
but nvidia demos only on ati cards with hacked drivers.

Sure nice they wish to show of their card... and what the extra
features offer, but If you have seen the monkey demo ya know that such
effects can also be reached by DX9 instead of nvidia only extensions!

That's assuming you have a sensible PS2.0... which the GeForce cards don't.

Can any new nvidia demo work on radeon8500 card? Using PS2.0 emulators like
3danalyser or whatever?

don't know if that card is dx9 capable, but if it is it should work

And lo, the prophet spoke these words, and all the worshippers with
one accord fell prostrate to the ground declaring:-

" The truth has finally been revealed. A holy one has come.
We see the vision and and treasure in our hearts for ever the
words of the prophet Ben, greatest of all the prophets sent by
the mightiest of all Gods -- Ati "

Nope It's Dx8.1
So no hope there?

nope, the 72mb file has a readme that states you must have a dx9 hardware
and software to use it. you may still get it to run though it wont have all
the bells and whistles

Well yes PS2.0 is a bit... well quite weak on FX cards, has to do with
the idiot design of the GPU. But the ati demos are Pure DX9, so the
closest thing to what both FX and ATI SHOULD render!

I went to this site, got the wrapper and Dawn patch to work, very
simple drag and drop. DEMO ran on my ATI9800Pro and the DAWN demo
was downloaded 2 weeks ago (for a friend who doesnt have hiSpeed
internet)

But, the site says that the DAWN demo works better on the 9800Pro than
the NV30/35 cards. I have a 5900 as well...

But the Dawn demo doesn't look as good and studders on my system...
but I've been playing some games and such, so perhaps a reboot is in
order (will post back if it helps).

An important note about the DAWN demo that it says on the site:

WindowsXP is required.... funny... I ran DAWN just fine on my Win98
system.

And yes, changing fairy.exe to quake3.exe make her naked (wow, didnt
know that... proves those Nvidia guys are perverts.... but then
again, to make the model - ya needed to make the body first ;)

Note the hack is unstable, the mouse controls are finicky... but at
least it runs. (press PRINT SCREEN BUTTON to save screen shot - one
at a time - past to a paint program).

Nvidia demos generally don't work on ati cards, because mostly they
use special extensions only nvidia uses. Some old demos work fine
though so it's seemingly an GF5 trick!

But with some cracked DLL's and a nice DX9 ati card you can run some
of them.
