"Date Photo Taken" column

There are no dates in the "Date Photo Taken" column of
the folder with my JPG photos. How can I 'activate' that
column to actually show the "Date Photo Taken"?

column to actually show the "Date Photo Taken"?

Nothing shows on my computer in that column either, but I'm assuming that's
because those pictures were copied to that folder from another source - i.e.
CD, or through a card reader - not directly from the camera. No idea how
data gets in that column to begin with. I usually just refer to the "date
modified".
