Date Format from Excel 97

Since upgrading to Excel 2002 I have found that files saved in excel 97 lose
their date formating.

Despite the fact that in both versions the default has always been dd/mm/yy
old documents are all formated mm/dd/yy when opened in 2002.

Anyone else come across this problem?

are you sure the Windows settings are the same for both computers=?

Yes. I've seen it with several users all of whom would have used a standard
build where the regional setting would have been the same.

I can only assume that in 97 no format was ever set, because the default was
fine, but now 2002 is reading no format as mm/dd/yy
