Date Fields -making ordinals superscript

I'm using Word 2000 and I'm trying to find out how to make the ordinal option
of an inserted date field superscript.

DATE \@ "d"\*Ordinal
gives me (on the 5th Sept)
5th
but what I want is with the "th" superscripted as per the normal default if
you just type it in. Does anyone know how to achieve this with a field.

Thanks Greg

I guessed I was heading for a macro somewhere. Your page looks very helpful
as a reference on other things too.

Macropod's work on date fields is a tour de force. He has my great respect
for the effort he has put into this document.
