For the purpose of sorting an employee list on date of birth I want to
convert a date from10/17/50 to 10/17 and be able to sort it. I don't care
what year they were born in. Thanks...Craig

Use a cell in an adjacent column with a formula like:
=text(a2,"mm/dd")

And sort your range by that helper column.

Craig

You have to split the month and day out from the year.

In an adjacent cell enter =TEXT(A1,"mm/dd")

Sort on that column which ignores the year.
