Date changes on documents.

Hi. Some documents that are prepared by an outside source are used by me with
my opening the documents after downloading them, I type in teh respective
details that I want to include in the document that includes the date that I
typed it. I then save that document in Word or on CD then when I go and open
the saved document the date automatically shows as the same date that I have
reopened it.
How can I change the downloaded documents so that the date stays teh same as
the date it was typed. Thanks regards David.

Change the date field to a createdate field. Update the field and it will
always show tthe date tthe document was first saved.

Never ever read from, write to or print from floppy with Word. This is the
most certain method of ensuring document corruption. Copy to the hard disc
and work on the document from there. *This is equally relevant to other
removable media such as CDRW.*

You are using a DATE or TIME field rather than a CREATEDATE field. This
field should be put in the original template if possible (instead of
inserting using the keyboard shortcut or header/footer toolbar button).

In the document in question, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. Then
change the field to a CREATEDATE field, press F9 and then Alt-F9.

This may end up giving you the date you downloaded rather than the date
typed, not sure.

See http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the
different kinds of datefields and how to format them.

Do not *format a CD* (for which you would need additional software). Instead
use the disc mastering software that came with your disc writer eg Nero,
Roxio etc and copy the files you want to transport to the disc in data
multisession mode. At your destination copy them back to the hard drive from
the disc. Once on the hard disc select all the files in Windows Explorer,
right click and remove the read only file attribute property. To return the
files, start another sesssion on the disc and copy the files back again.
