database for livestock

Has anyone got a database OR know of an access one that can handle data
tracking for animals (farm) such as cattle and sheep.

It must include things such as date of birth; weight, bought and sold dates
to and from whom; sex; breed; mother and father details and ability to
include a photo of animal.????

Hi Phill

I'm sure there are several commercial programs around for animal
husbandry/farm management.

If you want to develop your own in Access, it's easy enough to create a
table that has the kinds of things you suggested. Just use date fields for
DOB, bought, sold, etc. You will want another table to store the names of
other "clients" (farmers you deal with), and you can then use a pair of
combos to select the farmer you bought the animal from or sold it to.

The weight field might also require a related table. That is, you may weigh
an animal several times over its life, so you may need a one-to-many
relation between an animal at its weights at different times.

As far as the animal's parents go, see:

Can I suggest you don't use a real email address when posting? Spambots are
active here.

You're not related to our next PM, are you? Surely it's a joke to suggest
Abbott and Costello run Australia! :)

Allen,

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the commercial software however the cost
is generally $1000-$1500, too steep for my little pocket.

I will use some of the info you suggested in your reply and try access and
see how it goes.

The email address was deliberate on my part to get a personal reply. I will
not do it again after your information. Thanks

Phill
