Database Corrupt?

I've had two recent problems where I needed to replace my BE with a backup
copy. The message I get is - "....Needs to be repaired or isn't a database
file. You or another user may have unexpectedly quit MS Access while a
MSAccess database was open. Do you want MSAccess to repair the database?"
I tried to repair with no luck. Program gives an error message then
shutsdown program when trying to repair. I've verified we have no power
interupt. The BE file is battery backed up on server. What could user be
doing that is causing this problem? Or, is user not the cause? I have
noticed the BE file is large and growing rapid. Currently 276 mb. Was 184
mb on 12/30/06. Running regular compact and repair does not significantly
reduce this file. What is max file size for any MSAccess database? Using
MSAccess version 2000 on Windows 2000 Prof.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I believe it was 2 gig for 2000, but it may have been only 1 gig.

There are a number of possibilities. How robust is your LAN It is not
on a WAN is it? Access does require a good connection. BTW congratulations
on having the foresight of having a backup.

An Access database (all versions from 2000 on) is limited to 2 GByte,
so you're well below the size limit.

Check out http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm for
suggestions about the causes, prevention and cure of database
corruption. The most likely problem is that someone has a bad NIC
(Network Interface Card) on their PC; Access is very sensitive to
network instability.

Thanks John - I've asked my Network Admin person to check the NIC to see if
we can upgrade. I know the PC's are very old. This may be the problem.
I'll also check the website you gave me for further possibilities.

Thanks Again.
