Data Validation List

In previous versions of Excel (i.e. 2003) you could create validation lists,
format each cell with a different color (e.g. red, green , and yellow) and
once the list was advertised in the desired cell and the value selected from
the drop down list that formatting was carried over to the cell of the
selected value. In 2007 it doesn't seem to work. Can anybody recommend what
I need to do to get this working?

None of what you describe for 2003 can be done without conditional
formatting or VBA code.

You can do the same in 2007.

Which cell(s) is/are to get the color?

What does "advertised" mean to you?

Can you show us in more detail what you want?

Use cell references to make it more clear, please.
