Data CDs not readable or autoplaying

I've got a Pioneer DVD drive and Philips CD drive. If I insert a DVD or
audio CD, they autoplay fine. If I insert any application disks, nothing
happens. Setup does not start and the drive appears empty in Explorer. If I
attempt to copy or xcopy from a command prompt, I get "invalid drive
specification". I also changed the CD drive from PIO to DMA, to no avail.
I've tried rolling back to the earliest restore point, as well as updated the
hardware firmware and XP with the latest drivers. No luck. USB memory keys
and digital cameras are detected "autoplayed" correctly, the problem is only
with my 2 optical drives.

All the documenation I can find online targets being able to read data disks
but not audio. I have the reverse problem. Please help.

Thanks

I also am able to burn pictures/data to the CD drive. I also tried rebooting
with a disk in the drive, but after XP restarts, when you click on the drive
it still shows empty.

Where are you looking that the drive shows as empty? From within what
Windows application? Windows explorer?

From within Windows Explorer, or from the cmd line. Trying to copy from the
cmd line returns "Invalid drive specification".

I have been fighting this battle after installing Eady CD Creator 7.5 and
Easy Media Creator 8. If you leave the CD/DVD in the drive for about 10
minutes, (do not Explore it) will it show up?
