data bleed through

Have experienced a problem in Excel 2000 sp-3 for a while now.
Data is bleeding through the worksheets.
The workbooks never have over 7 worksheets, there is no excessive
formatting such as color or border lines. No macros and not heavy on
calculation.
The top rows are frozen with freeze/unfreeze panes.
Data on worksheet xx will show up on 1 to 3 other worksheets, if the
corresponding cells on the other sheets are empty.
I have rebuilt and remade from scratch files this is happening in, it
continues to occur.
I've changed printer drivers trying to resolve this.
Any ideas?

TIA

That's what I've referred to as ghosting.
I haven't had the problem in a long time, and I have Excel 2000,
SP3 just like you.

Since there have been very few complaints in the last year,
I thought the Service Packs must have helped but you've proved
that wrong.

If you have a 5 button mouse, you might try changing the wheel
button to "Enter" which is a much better default.

It is updating the mouse drivers that are suggested to fix this problem.

If you have a PS/2 and USB compatible mouse you might try
plugging it into a USB port, or switch to a USB mouse. There
is no one solution that has worked for everyone. It has happened
with no wheel mice, and it has happened with USB mice.
But it seems to have hit the five button wheel mice plugged into
PS/2 port the most.

My page on the problem is

When you find something that works would you
please post back in reply to my reply so I will see it.

In no case should you have to reboot to get out Excel because
you can cancel with the Task Manager, and I've always managed
to find a way to break loose one way or another from within
Excel. Sounds like you've managed to break loose since you
did not even mention having to cancel out of Excel in any manner.

The mouse is about the only thing I never considered. I use a PS/2 - 2
button wheel mouse that came with the Dell computer, but this was a
problem long before this computer or mouse. I believe I have always
used mice with wheels.
Wheel detection is currently on, I will try turning it off. That
doesn't work I will try a USB Mouse. Or a plain 2 button mouse.
As for getting out of Excel, I don't have any problems where it's
frozen up.
It may take awhile for me to notice the results or lack of, but will
post again on it.
Thanks.

What meant was to change the click on Mouse wheel to "Enter"
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/mouse.txt
I certainly would not defeat use of the wheel.

Windows START, Settings, Control Panel --> Mouse
Wheel Button: Enter (global *override*)

This allows you to click on check marks on a form for instance
and then instead of having to use Enter on the keyboard or
moving mouse to some other location you can do the "Enter"
from the mouse. Trust me it is a lot better than the
next to useless "Auto Scroll (default)".

You might have a different problem if you are not getting
locked or frozen out of using Excel. Besides the bleeding
through of information on other worksheets are you getting
what's looks like large selections like you would expect with
use of F8 to extend a selection or to turn off the extended selection.
