damaged recovery cd

Hey everyone

I have a damaged sony recovery cd so I can't restore my computer. Can I
install windows xp from my friends cd and then type in my cd key found on the
back of my computer

Maybe - if your friend has a generic OEM CD.
If I were you - I would contact Sony for a replacement recovery CD.

yeah but sony's recovery cd comes with a lot of junk pre-installed. I want to
have windows xp without all the junk
