Damaged Active X Control in IE

When checking Internet Explorer Objects list, I see that there is an Active
X control marked as damaged. I am not sure how to fix this since I am not
sure which program loaded it. If I remove it will IE put it back
automatically?

I ended up with some software on my system called downloadware and I am not
sure which program loaded that either. I loaded Avast Antivirus free
software virus scanner and also a small income tax prep program. Should I
try uninstalling both and then uninstall anything left in the Add Remove
Programs listing that I did not actually install? I believe this control
must have been loaded by one of these programs. After uninstalling the 2
programs should I then also remove the damaged active x control if it is
still there?

Please help if you know anything about this. There seems to be an item
running called "Server Update" that I believe may have been installed by one
of these programs and is affecting my connection to the internet.

I am running Windows XP Home and Office 2000. I use Outlook for email &
connect to internet thru dial up modem. I have 2 users on my PC both with
admin privileges!

Silverfox;
You don't want downloadware it is a parasite:

Server Update does not sound like some thing you need either. If it is serverupdate.exe
it is a Trojan. Info here:

IE did not put any of this stuff there in the first place. Do not remove your
programs. Right click the damaged one and then click update. See what that does. If it
doesn't fix it, remove it. If you need it, and it is legitimate, it will probably be
downloaded again. You can right click the object(s) and click Properties to see what any
of these are, if they are legit. Check all three tabs.
