You have a noisy phone line. See if you hear the static on your wired
telephone. If you hear the static on the telephone got to your telephone
Network Interface, open the consumer side of it, unplug your inside wiring
and plug your telephone in its place. If you still get static your telephone
service provider needs to repair your line. If you get static inside but not
at the network interface you have a problem with the telephone wiring in
your home. In many areas problems with telephones, inside wiring and other
indoor equipment is the responsibility of the customer, but some phone
customers offer a maintenance plan in exchange for a monthly fee. If you
request a service call and the technition has problems detecting the static
on the network interface the phone service provider may add a fee to your
phone bill.
I had some intermitent static on my line that appeared to have a link to
rain and other damp weather. It took several calls before the phone service
provider got a technition out before better weather dried things back out.
When the technition finally arived while the line was causing problems it
took all of ten minutes to fix.
