Dailup connection dropped Event ID 20159

Hello All,

Windows XP home

Askey 56k modem (connected COM 1, drivers 5.1.2535.0, 9-3-2000)

When I try to dialin at my ISP, the connection establish with 48 kbps or
sometimes 49,2 kbps. With NO software or hardware changes the connection
automatically drops after 1 minute.

I receive a normal IP-address from my ISP and the subnet and the gateway are
also present at my PPP connection, but I can't connect any URL with IE. When
I use the ping command I cannot connect other IP-addresses other than
127.0.0.x or my own IP address distributed by my ISP.

So I turned my modem logging on and in the Event Viewer the Event 20158 and
20159 appears, nothing found about this on the Technet CD's or the Technet
website.... only just one site reports "20159 - The connection to %1 made by
user %2 using device %3 was
disconnected"

Anyone with a solution?

Thx, Huub (MCSE).

Please do the first steps of Windows troubleshooting:

1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update these programs before running,
and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete
temporary and Temporary Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services
programs from starting with Windows - see www.blackviper.com for
services info and www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for programs
info - 5) look in Event Viewer for clues.

When you know your computer is virus and spyware-free, if the problem
persists, please repost. Be sure to tell us how you are connecting to
the Internet (mode and ISP) and what you've already done to
troubleshoot.

Cheers,

Malke
