Da Vote: Move the Pricelessware site

M

Matt

If the vote is for a new site, I'll be there, else, I'll be the one
taking a nap. :) Post when/if a change in your vote is needed.

Last I recall, is you were proposing making it database driven,
presumably requring access to a sutable database (MYSQL?) and
processing power such as PHP.

I'd support a move, when that solution is ready to come on stream, or
preferably running in parallel with the old site until the bugs are
ironed out.

http://i-websolutions.co.uk/cfhosting.php
There are some web packages in association with a forum I'm a member
of (open to anyone).
If 100Mb of space, and 2Gb of bandwith are enough (and 5 MYSQL
databases), the forum members price is just 99p a month.

Realistically, to my mind, Pricelessware depends on a committed and
able administrator, like Susan, much more than it does on a particular
site or even domain.

So far as I can see, there are no replacements for Susan making
themselves known. Even if one appeared, Susan's tried and tested. We
know we've got about as good as we can get.

I agree, so I vote move.

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen

come with a 5-year warranty. Let's not get totally ridiculous here.

Having said this doesn't mean that I see Susan like an employee. More
important is that what you 'can' read 'between the lines'. I don't
think that it is any good for the site and for ACF when the site is
moved, just one person has access to that site, and that person stops
after a while, whoever that person may be. I think that we need a
little more to know about the future, in case we move the site. Until
my questions are answered, I don't vote.

I noticed in other posts that some folks still want me to mediate if
possible. I am still available for this 'job'.

With kind regards,

I will stand corrected, but I believe you've got it backwards. I believe
it was Genna that was advocating that the site format be changed, and
that it was Susan who considered that proposal one of the
"irreconcilable differences."

Susan,

Haven't followed the "whole" issue but I know in the past you have been very
helpful and on more than a few occasions, went out of your way to assist me.
My vote goes with you.

Thank you,

Bob S.

I also vote for there to be a mediation via Henk.

Henk has not shown any qualities which would make him suitable as a
mediator, except for his own conviction that he would be suitable.
On the contrary, he does not even trust Susan (and us) to be intelligent
enough to make provisions for somebody else to take over if she suddenly
disappears.

And first of all, there is no need for any mediation anymore.
The failure to realize that also shows his lack of understanding.

As we have voted about moving or not we have also voted about another
thing, if we are to force Susan and Genna to get along somehow, at the
old web site, or if we let Susan move the site and thereby leave these
problems with Genna behind.

Most people have voted for a move, so there is no need for any mediation
anymore.

Hi Henk,
in principle I agree with much of what you have written in this branch
of the thread (and elsewhere for that matter), however, in practice,
since we have no one else who wants to do the PL 'job' and since Susan
will not continue (in her present state) to use the pricelessware.org
site then there seems to me to be little alternative than to
allow/let/agree with her to use another site. Otherwise, without
Susan, pricelessware.org and the PL will be stagnant :-!(

I wonder :- would she be willing to use another site to
assemble/maintain/manage etc PL and then at intervals
it could be mirrored back onto pricelessware.org by an intermediary ?
I noticed in other posts that some folks still want me to mediate if
possible. I am still available for this 'job'.

I vote for a name change ---> "Henk The Brave" :)))

She can be the Queen Bee *there* and everybody
else can sing her praises *there*.

This melodramatic, manipulative, control-driven power ploy doesn't
deserve further discussion.

So, you are going to take on the job of doing PL on pricelessware.org
then ?

I'm sorry Susan, but this is really really starting to get lame now.

You're certainly the expert on what's lame. So I guess you're qualified
to make that statement.

Add my vote to move. Genna had no business to unilaterally decide to
change how the site is maintained.

John Fitzsimons

The domain Pricelssware.org is paid for, for the next 18 months.
Having had to change MY web address last November, I am more cognizant
than many of the difficulties involved re updating the entire web
to the new address.

Moving a web site simply needs a "search and replace" of all
references to the original index page to the new one. Uploading a site
after this is done is likely to only take minutes. At the most hours.
I vote Stay.

That isn't an option. Susan says she isn't happy with issues regarding
access to the PL site. Have those issues ceased ? If they have then
nobody here has mentioned that.

Regards, John.

If Pricelessware is to remain where it
is, can Susan continue to do things the way she wants to?

< snip >

Unless Genna, and/or SOS, have changed access rights then the
answer is obviously "no".

We all knew that over 200 posts ago. So why ask people to vote
for an option that isn't available ? Rather dopey IMO.

Looks like another attempt to put pressure on Genna to "mend her
ways".

Why don't we just find Genna and tar and feather her ? Sounds like
an appropriate "punishment" for anyone who dares dictate how people
use their own web space.

Let's take a vote on this. Should we punish Genna for daring to say
how people can access her site ?

Please mark your scorn and abuse responses [OT] out of consideration
for others. TIA

Here are the vote results:

TAR AND FEATHER GENNA

DON'T TAR AND FEATHER GENNA

Vote as needed. Be sure to keep things in this thread and DON'T start
a "tar and feathers" thread. This thread is already far to short.
Another few hundred useless posts should do us all a lot of good.

After all, if we didn't waste time with this rubbish what would we
talk about ? Freeware ?

J

John Fitzsimons

This is my unresignation. Apologies for the previous over-reaction.

Good to see.
DON'T MOVE THE PL SITE:

A pointless vote. If you cannot work with Genna then even a 1,000,000
vote "for" will not change that.

(Presumably SOS hasn't changed the access rights etc. of * Genna's *
site.)
MOVE THE PL SITE:

Nope.

MOVE YOUR FILES IF YOU WANT TO. DON'T MOVE YOUR FILES
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO.

I vote for the third option. As I have all along.

The third option is much better than both of the other two. :)

I vote that Susan buy the webspace and put up her own site
anywhere she wants and call it anything she wants, *except*
Pricelessware.org . She can set it up and organize it any way she wants,
without interference. She can be the Queen Bee *there* and everybody
else can sing her praises *there*.
This melodramatic, manipulative, control-driven power ploy doesn't
deserve further discussion.

Very well put Mark. :)

J

John Fitzsimons

He may not have stated flat out, but I'm pretty sure John Fitzsimons
was leaning to stay at the present site.

I suggest you read my posts. Nowhere did I suggest anything of the
sort. I repeatedly have said that she should move elsewhere if she
isn't happy with Genna's site.

These threads are a total waste of everyone's time. If Susan wants to
move then she can. Her choice. Nothing has changed since post
number one on this issue.

She could move then. She can move now. :)

Regards, John.
