D drive won't read disks

My D Drive won't read any disks. I put a disk in the drive and it says please
place disk in drive. Earlier this year, I had my computer fixed and when I
came home it was fine. Weeks later it won't read disks. Temporarily I have
been using my E Drive. What should I do to get it working?

If its in device mgr,R.click on the drive, select uninstall, then close
out,shut-
down computer, power off.Place the cdrom or rw on another IDE connection,
set the jumper pins as needed (place after a hard drive),then power on,start
xp.XP will reinstall it on restart.

Sounds like the hardware died. If you have diagnostics for the drive, now
is the time to use them. However, most likely you need a new drive.
