CWS About:blank

I am trying to get rid of CWS (a spyware distribution). I
downloaded the beta on this machine; copied it to a thumb
drive; installed it on the infected machine; and it gives
me critical error 102 - please uninstall and install a more
current version. Did a new version come out in the last 15
minutes?

I expect what they really mean is not that the version is
too old but that you did not run the Windows Genuine
Advantage Tool first to prove that you have a valid
Windows copy.

Doubt AntiSpy can kill about:blank any way. Get
HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select
Scan and Save Log. Note where you saved the log then
send it to me as an attachment so I can see which version
you have.

I assume you have already tried CWShredder from Intermute?

Usually about:blank takes a little more work but it never
hurts to try CWShredder to rule out coolwebsearch.

I don't know what is giving you the error 102. It isn't what Ron Kinner
suggests--Genuine validation isn't involved past the download at this point,
and isn't a requirement then.

Consider dropping a line to (e-mail address removed) if you are able to give
data and files from the machine which has the error 102 on it. Microsoft is
interested in getting more information about error 101 situations, and you
might check whether this one is included in that collection effort.
