Customizing Taskbar

I'd like to get rid of the buttons that pop up on the bottom toolbar (I think
it's the taskbar?) at start-up. I've tried the "customize" and "advanced"
option by right clicking on the taskbar but I can't get it to work properly.
The buttons I want to get rid of are by the clock and I'm using IE v6.

Thanks in advance!

Hi AM :)

As for the clock..just rightclick on it, when the dialog box comes up,
uncheck the box next to Show clock. That should get rid of the clock for
you. The others are generally icons for programs that start to run when you
boot up. You can take them out via the Startup menu in MSCONFIG, or it's
equivilent.

Or, if you have SpyBot, you can disable them by going to the Advanced Mode,
Tools>System Startup and then unckeck those you don't want to show in the
taskbar. However, a word of CAUTION: Some programs *must* be set to run at
startup, so be careful what you disable. :)

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Windows version?

That's known as the Notification Area or Systray (which is not the same
things as systray.exe). Most icons show up here due to a setting in the
applications' Tools>Options area. Some will appear in Systray by default
(e.g., anti-virus, Messengers).

Which ones would you want to get rid of?

Thanks Jan!
I think I got them out through MSCONFIG. It took me awhile and many reboots
but I think the last one did it.
Thanks so much for help - it was driving me crazy.

I wanted to get rid of all of them except the anti-virus. It takes forever
for my computer to reboot and I thought that might be part of it, and so many
I didn't need (like MusicMatch Jukebox).
I have Window ME and IE v6.
I think I did get rid of them through MSCONFIG.
Thanks for your assistance!
