customizing search providers

I an using Windows XP and cannot customize my search so
that I can use only one search provider. I have looked
in "Help" but cannot get the right menu when clicking on
the search button. "Help" says to click search, then go
to customize providers - no such animal exists on my
version (6). Can anyone help.

First eliminate any scumware.
